more touches of spring ...
Not being lulled into thinking there may not be another freeze,
I am by-passing all those beautiful annuals in the nursery's
and instead I'm getting the yard and pots for their annual plantings.
In the meantime I'm enjoying the beauty of the blooming shrubs.
What I grew-up calling "Bridal Wreath" (spiraea)
my shrubs, now in full bloom, have grown tall enough to cover my street address.

lilac time!
Santa Fe was once known as the City of Lilacs.
So many have gone by the wayside, including those that once filled and bloomed in the Plaza.
My home has many old lilacs (50+ years);
I have planted more along the back wall and Persian Laceleaf lilacs in the front.
Old lilac |
I love lilacs and so look forward to the abundance of blooms and the magnificent fragrance.

maybe it really is spring!
Never intending to be a doubting Thomas,
I often am when the old apricot tree blooms just before a winter storm warning is in the forecast!
Ah,
but I was wrong! And while there was snow above 8,000 feet,
we experienced a soft rain for about 18 hours which was magnificent!
With daytime temps in the low 60's,
the red leaf peach has decided to join the apricot and fill my day with delight!
I really have no idea what the little tree below is.
(It's a sucker I thought might be a chokecherry, but it's not.)
It is in the most awkward place, receiving minimal sun ...
but it is so sweet and loves to bloom filling my heart with joy!

right or wrong ...
winter storm warning in effect until Friday at noon
as I see clouds moving out to reveal blue skies and sunshine!

love my kitties ....
When I spend time in the office the kitties are my constant companions,
and their favorite place to sit is on my printer.
Today I grabbed my camera!
Lady Gray,6 + years old
and Baby,1 + years old .
PS: I also love my new camera and camera lens!

oh oh ... too early!
Snow, sun, cold, warm ...
and the silly apricot tree thinks it's spring!
Love my native apricot tree, love the flavor of the little apricots, but it is a very messy, messy tree.
I'm not sure whether I'm happy or sad that I'll not have a bumper crop this year because it is sure to freeze again!

location, location, location ...
While I may no longer be enamored with Santa Fe, the community I was born and raised in,
I will always be in love with the terrain, the climate and in knowing it is truly God's country.
Yesterday morning I measured 8" of snow on my patio table, this morning there was none.
Once the snow falls, regardless of the temperatures, the sun shines, and the snow melts;
my trees are happy, my garden is happy and I'm happy!

forgotten prediction ....
Mr. Groundhog predicted we would see 6 more weeks of winter
and normally being only 40% accurate,
he came out and was surprised to see he was correct!

daydreaming
New Mexico webcasts their legislative committee hearings, which I have become addicted to ...
When I don't have specific bills that I'm tracking and I'm not required to be at the Capitol,
I am able to listen to the bills that I may have an interest in.
Which means I sit in my office, listen to the hearings and play, all at the same time!
daydreaming |
Today is cold, yesterday was cold, tomorrow is supposed to be cold,
therefore as I listen to Senate Corporations, I'm daydreaming about spring!
